Students Looking for Change
August 29, 2011 - 11:59am / grace.craigI have been recruiting on the campus of Virginia Tech for a week now. I’ve been handing out koozies, ping-pong balls, bottle openers, pens, cups, and bracelets. Despite the inclination to sign up just because I am handing out free stuff, a majority of the students who stop to talk to me ask, “So, what exactly do the College Republicans do?” With only a few days of recruiting behind me, I continue to find more and more students who are genuinely interested in joining College Republicans and concerned about changing the direction of our country. Of course, President Obama has been a common thread in all of these conversations, as most of these students seem to really be looking forward to making a change in 2012.
In addition to these students expressing interest for the first time, Virginia Tech also has a very strong chapter of College Republicans who do not think twice about giving up their time to promote the Conservative movement. Volunteering for a campaign isn’t something you typically think of college students doing with their time on Saturdays. However, the Virginia Tech CR chapter spent Saturday doing a lit drop for Senate District 38 candidate, Adam Light, in Pulaski County.
College students at Virginia Tech, whether they have been an active CR for 4 years or are just an American citizen who has reached the end of their rope, are all talking about making a change in 2012. These students, like the rest of the country, have had enough of Obama and are willing to become personally invested in efforts to promote the Conservative moment. These students are another reason that 71 days from now, on Election Day, we will see a Red November.I have been recruiting on the campus of Virginia Tech for a week now.
