Mississippi Republicans are Full Steam Ahead

August 27, 2011 - 11:58am / madison.shook

2011 is going to be a BIG year for Mississippi politics with possible historical feats! With Tuesday’s primary runoff election’s totals in, the Republican State Treasurer nominee has been named, as well as the Democratic nominee for governor. Lynn Fitch, the current State Personnel Board director, won the primary runoff for State Treasurer against Lee Yancey, a current state senator. Mayor Johnny DuPree of Hattiesburg won the Democratic nomination for governor against Bill Luckett, attorney and businessman. As well as the state wide races occurring in November, Mississippi has a chance to take back the majority in both chambers of the state legislature for the first time since Reconstruction!

In a recent Wall Street Journal article, author Cameron McWhirter highlighted the efforts by the Mississippi GOP for this historic election year. Last year, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia and Alabama successfully took control of both chambers of their state legislatures, as well added or kept a Republican governor. And in North Carolina, they successfully took control of both chambers, but still have the Governor’s election in 2012. In Mississippi, in order to take back the House, Republicans would need to gain at minimum 8 seats. To do so, the Mississippi Republican Party plans to spend an unprecedented $1 million dollars through polling, consumer data, get out the vote efforts (GOTV) and advertising. And, obviously CRNC has deployed two field representatives to Mississippi to fire up the college youth in the state and help Republican candidates get elected through get out the vote efforts!

Ben Walters and myself will be recruiting new College Republican members to chapters across the state, then utilizing them through volunteer efforts to get Republicans elected  to the State House and Senate, making this a Red November! This November is going to be an exciting and historical election. Are you going to be part of the Red November efforts in Mississippi?

I pledge to make this a Red November
