Come on Irene, Get the Hell Off the Beach!
August 28, 2011 - 2:49pm / swilliams@crnc.orgThis week in New Jersey there has been more drama to hit it since the show "Jersey Shore" started. First there was an earthquake that affected the whole east coast. While there was pandomonium and hysteria in many of the larger cities like Washington, DC, most of New Jersey handled it well. Then hurricane Irene decided to pour salt in the wound of an already rattled east coast. Widespread panic ensued; Governors up & down the east coast declared mandatory evacuations of their oceanside towns. Governor Christie handled the situation by urging residents & tourists to take his mandate seriously. He went as far as to tell people to "get the hell off the beach." Only in New Jersey can a Governor reprimand his constituents and still be liked.

Personally, surviving Irene was like surviving a game of Words with Friends with my friend Irvin. It was built up to be worse than it actually was, but while it was at its worst in my area it felt like it would never end. There is silver lining in all of these natural disasters though; if we can survive an earthquake and a hurricane in one week, then College Republicans should have no problem making this a Red November!
